The Show:
-
Car 54, Where Are You? is a classic American sitcom that originally aired from 1961 to 1963 on NBC.
-
It was created by Nat Hiken, who also created The Phil Silvers Show.
-
The series starred Fred Gwynne (later famous for The Munsters) as Officer Francis Muldoon and Joe E. Ross as Officer Gunther Toody, two bumbling but lovable New York City police officers.
-
It's set in the fictional 53rd precinct in The Bronx, with a lot of humor coming from their offbeat adventures, quirky fellow officers, and the neighborhood residents.
-
The theme song is very famous and catchy:
"There's a hold-up in the Bronx, Brooklyn's broken out in fights..."
(It lists off NYC chaos before ending with "Car 54, Where Are You?")
