The film is set during the Qing dynasty and revolves around the struggle between the Shaolin monks and the oppressive Qing forces.
The story centers on a young man named Hung Hei-kwun (Gordon Liu), who seeks revenge for the brutal killing of his master by a Qing officer. Hung is taken in by the Shaolin Temple, where he trains in the famous martial arts of the Shaolin monks. As he grows stronger, he learns of a new, deadly threat: the Qing soldiers are targeting the temple, and only the expertise of Shaolin kung fu can defend it.
