Pop Goes the Weasel (Lady Cocoa)
Pop Goes the Weasel (Lady Cocoa) is a 1975 crime drama also known simply as Lady Cocoa. Directed by Matt Cimber, the film stars Lola Falana in the title role and is a part of the blaxploitation genre that emerged during the 1970s.
Synopsis: The film follows Cocoa, played by Lola Falana, a sassy and street-smart woman who has been serving time in prison. She agrees to testify against her criminal boyfriend, a notorious gangster, in exchange for her release from jail. As part of the deal, Cocoa is placed under witness protection and taken to a luxury hotel by two detectives, Ramsey (Alex Dreier) and Doug (Gene Washington), to keep her safe until her court appearance.
However, Cocoa quickly proves to be more than a handful for her protectors. She enjoys her newfound freedom, going on a shopping spree and partying, while remaining unaware of the real danger that follows her. Her ex-boyfriend’s mob associates are intent on silencing her before she can testify, and a hitman is sent to track her down.
The film builds tension as Cocoa’s brash personality conflicts with the seriousness of the situation. Despite her carefree attitude, danger lurks around every corner as the hitman closes in, leading to a final confrontation that will determine her fate.
