Scarlet Street (1945), directed by Fritz Lang, is a seminal film noir that delves into themes of deception, obsession, and downfall. The story follows Christopher "Chris" Cross (Edward G. Robinson), a meek and unhappily married cashier who harbors dreams of being a painter. His life takes a dark turn when he rescues a young woman, Kitty March (Joan Bennett), from an apparent assault. Mistaking him for a wealthy artist, Kitty and her manipulative boyfriend, Johnny Prince (Dan Duryea), conspire to exploit Chris for financial gain.
