Inspired by the legend of Wu Sung, DELIGHTFUL FOREST follows the fictional WATER MARGIN character as he serves time in a Meng province prison for the murder of his sister-in-law and her lover, and forges a close bond with a sympathetic prison guard Shih En, whose restaurant has been taken over by a ruthless criminal with powerful connections. When Shih En (Tien Ching) helps to ensure that he is spared the baton punishment inflicted on all of the new prisoners, Wu Sung (Ti Lung) vows to help him get his restaurant back from Chiang Chung (Chu Mu), who has taken control of the business with the backing of the military and Meng officials.
