The Movie:
-
Under Fire is a 1983 political war drama directed by Roger Spottiswoode.
-
It stars Nick Nolte, Gene Hackman, and Joanna Cassidy.
-
The story is set during the final days of the Nicaraguan Revolution (late 1970s) and follows Russell Price (Nick Nolte), an American photojournalist who gets caught between staying neutral and taking a moral stand as he witnesses atrocities committed during the conflict.
-
It's praised for its gritty realism, strong performances, and thought-provoking depiction of the ethical challenges faced by journalists in war zones.
-
The movie also features a haunting musical score by Jerry Goldsmith, considered one of his finest works (he even used a special African instrument called a "blaster beam" to give it a distinctive sound).
