These two movies with Cosby and Poitier are CLASSICS. I had to have my own copy. Fun comedies for a rainy day or any day that can be enjoyed with the family.
No dislikes.....sorry. Need more movies like this.
These two dvds are the cure for my covid-19 blues. Seing this dynamic duo delivered me back to my childhood. We had so much hope back then and these two comedies highlighted that. Thank you. This was a great deal.
I dislike that the video skips. In certain parts of the movie, it has no sound or some type of technical difficulties in it. I need to received a new DVD of this movie. Thank you Lisa A. Huggins, [****]
Three stars for "Uptown Saturday Night" and five stars for "A Piece Of The Action". Major movie actors as well as lesser known up and coming minor actors are featured in these two films. Filmed on location at various areas of Chicago in the 1970's gives both movies a gritty, realistic glimpse of urban life in the inner city. A comedy with serious underlying messages. Much has changed for the better in Chicago since that time, but much in Chicago has remained the same unimproved.
Had them before on VHS had to get them again. Bill Cosby and Sidney Portier were a great comedy movie duo back in the '70s. These 2 movies are a must have if you are a true fan or that era and these types of movies.
The DVD is awesome brings back memories of the good times I had in the seventies. The DVD worked well great way to enjoy a girl's night out sleep over. Mr. Cosby and Mr. Poirier were hilarious. As well as supporting case of Mr. James Earl Jones, Mr. Belafonte and Mr. Calvin Lockhart. Along with the wonderful women, Ms. Paula Kelly, Ms 'Lee Chamberlain, Ms Denise Nichalos, and Ms Rosiland Cash.. Awesome.
These are two classic movies that I have always enjoyed. Years ago I misplaced these dvds and wanted to have them again. I also have Do It Again with Bill Cosby & Sidney Poitier. I didn't realize that the dvd was a two sided movie. I honestly thought I had been ripped off. Once I called Amazon the next day after watching A Piece of the Action they explained it was a two sided dvd. The clarity of the movie is fine. I will ensure it doesn't get misplaced again.
There are a handful of scenes in 'Uptown Saturday Night' that had me laughing almost uncontrollably. When a movie can produce even a few scenes that double you over, you can't help but recommend it. 'Uptown Saturday Night' is a buddy movie with Bill Cosby (sporting a hair-do from what appears to be Colonial times) and Sidney Portier. The two men go 'uptown' in pursuit of a winning lottery ticket and all sorts of mayhem ensue. What makes this team-up work is the almost opposites attract style both men bring to the role. Bill Cosby is a natural. He doesn't even look like he's trying and yet he always brings in a great comedic performance. Sidney turns on his almost supernatural charm and wins points on how hard he's trying. Together, the two make a great duo. The cast is a whos who of 70s entertainment, and it's fun to see people like Harry Belafonte drop the cool and go for laughs. -- I have to drop a star because of "A Piece of the Action" which is also a comedy, but not nearly as funny. Bill and Sidney are back, and working with troubled urban kids, and the result is a not-completely-successful mix of comedy and morality tale. The two try hard enough and that's part of the problem, they look like they are trying too hard in a movie that doesn't know whether to go for laughs or wrench at your heart. It's not bad ... it's just middle-of-the-road. But, importantly, this disc has 'Uptown Saturday Night' and that is more than enough reason to own this.
